Storage Tokyngton Health and Safety Policy
Storage Tokyngton is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all employees, customers, contractors and visitors. This Health and Safety Policy sets out the principles and standards that apply across our storage facilities and removal operations, including handling, transport and storage of clients goods.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health, property damage and environmental harm arising from our activities. We aim to achieve this by identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing effective control measures. Health and safety considerations are integrated into the planning and delivery of all storage and removal services, from initial enquiry through to completion of work.
We seek continuous improvement in health and safety performance and review our arrangements regularly to reflect changes in operations, technology, guidance and best practice.
Legal Compliance and Standards
Storage Tokyngton complies with all applicable health and safety laws and recognised industry standards relevant to storage, warehousing, handling and removal activities. We maintain appropriate records, assessments and procedures to demonstrate compliance and to support safe working practices.
Responsibilities
Ultimate responsibility for health and safety rests with the company management, who ensure appropriate resources, training and oversight are in place. Managers and supervisors are responsible for implementing this policy within their areas, monitoring performance and addressing any concerns promptly.
Every employee has a duty to work safely, follow instructions and procedures, use equipment correctly, report hazards and cooperate with management to maintain a safe working environment. Contractors working on our premises or on behalf of Storage Tokyngton are required to meet the same standards and comply with our health and safety arrangements.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
We conduct risk assessments for key activities, including loading and unloading vehicles, manual handling of items, use of lifting equipment, operation within storage units, vehicle movements and customer access to facilities. The findings are used to develop safe systems of work that set out how tasks must be planned and carried out.
Risk assessments are reviewed regularly and whenever there are significant changes to processes, equipment, layout or service offerings, such as the introduction of new removal routes, vehicles or storage configurations.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a significant part of storage and removal activities. Storage Tokyngton minimises manual handling risks by using appropriate trolleys, dollies, sack trucks and lifting aids wherever practicable. Loads are assessed for weight, shape and stability before being moved, and employees are trained to recognise when mechanical assistance or additional personnel are required.
All equipment used for handling, lifting and access is selected, inspected, maintained and used in accordance with manufacturer instructions and relevant safety standards. Defective equipment is taken out of service immediately and reported to a manager.
Vehicle and Driving Safety
Our removal vehicles and any vehicles operating on site are managed to ensure safe condition and operation. This includes regular servicing, daily pre use checks and prompt attention to any safety related defects.
Drivers are required to follow road safety laws, drive considerately, secure loads safely, and adhere to parking and loading restrictions. When operating at collection or delivery points, drivers must consider site specific risks such as traffic flow, pedestrian routes, access constraints and weather conditions, and take steps to minimise risk to the public and other road users.
Workplace Environment and Storage Facilities
Storage areas, corridors, loading bays and customer access routes are kept as clear as reasonably practicable to reduce the risk of slips, trips and falls. Lighting is maintained at appropriate levels, and any damaged flooring, steps or fixtures are reported and repaired in a timely manner.
Goods are stacked and stored safely, taking into account weight limits, stability and access requirements. High level storage and any use of ladders or access equipment must follow specific safe working procedures to prevent falls and falling objects.
Training, Information and Supervision
All employees receive appropriate health and safety induction when joining Storage Tokyngton, including information on emergency arrangements, accident reporting, manual handling and site rules. Role specific training is provided for tasks such as operating handling equipment, driving company vehicles and supervising removal crews.
Refresher training is provided where necessary, and supervisors monitor working practices to ensure that procedures are followed in day to day operations.
Accident Reporting and Investigation
All accidents, incidents, near misses and hazardous conditions must be reported promptly to a manager. Details are recorded, investigated and analysed to establish causes and identify improvements. Where required, incidents are reported to the relevant authorities in accordance with legal requirements.
We encourage open reporting and a positive safety culture in which employees and contractors feel able to raise concerns without fear of blame, and where lessons learned are shared across the organisation.
Emergency Preparedness
Storage Tokyngton maintains emergency procedures covering fire, evacuation, first aid and other foreseeable emergencies. Fire detection and protection systems are tested in line with an established schedule, and evacuation routes and assembly points are clearly identified.
Designated personnel receive suitable training in the use of fire extinguishers, evacuation management and first aid response. Drills are conducted periodically to verify that procedures are effective and understood by all relevant persons.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
We consult with employees on matters affecting their health and safety and encourage suggestions for improvement. Feedback from customers and partners regarding safety issues during storage or removal services is welcomed and used as part of our review process.
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed at regular intervals and whenever significant changes occur in our activities, facilities or organisational structure, to ensure it remains suitable, adequate and effective.
